About the artists
Dr. Guha Krishnaswamy comes from a musical family and learned music in his childhood years from Chella, a disciple of Sri Balamuralikrishna. He then entered medical school, training and moved to the USA but continued to listen to music. About 12 years ago he started learning music from Sri Poorna Pragna Rao and from visiting senior vidwans. About 10 years ago he started lessons on line with Smt. Vidya Subramanian, a senior disciple of the late Lalgudi Jayaraman. He has also had some lessons from Sri VV Ravi.
Rahul Krishnaswamy, is a sophomore at Duke University in North Carolina. He has been a student of Carnatic Classical music for 10 years- initially with Sri Sashikiran (of Carnatica) and then with Vidya Subramaniam (senior disciple of Sri Lalgudi Jayaraman) and Smt. Soumya Sreeram (disciple of Smt. Vidya Subramaniam). He is currently learning from Sri Suryaprakash. Rahul has given several concerts in USA and in Chennai over the last few years. He has a great love and passion for Carnatic classical music and immerses himself in the music of masters from both Hindustani and Carnatic classical genres.
Sri Prasad Mantraratnam, is an outstanding established violinist who plays Carnatic classical music both as a soloist and an accompanist. A disciple of Sri Akella Mallikarjuna Sarma, a leading violinist in Andhra Pradesh, Prasad has accompanied many leading musicians in the field over the last twenty years. He is currently a resident of Huntsville, Alabama where he works as a Software Systems Engineer.
Kalaimamani Sri Guru Premkumar, is a very well sought-after Mridangam player, who is a master of Mridangam, Kanjira and Konnakol in India. He represents the school & style of Kumbakonam Azhaganambia Pillai. He received advanced training from Padmashri Sri. C.S.Murugaboopathy. He is an A-‘TOP’ grade artist with AIR, New Delhi and is an empaneled artist of India Council for Cultural Relations. He has accompanied every major artist of Carnatic music such as Dr. M. Balamurali Krishna, Semmangudi, T R Subramanyam, Jesudoss, Sudha Rani Raghupathy and Bombay Jaishree. For his services he was awarded the title of KALAIMAMANI from Tamilnadu Govt., Thanjavur VAIDHYANATHA IYER AWARD and the RAMAN MUNJAL MEMORIAL VOCATIONAL AWARD from Rotary Club of Delhi.
