Govardhani Babu
Kum. Govardhani Babu is a strong academic student and athlete from Chennai, who has always had a passion for the ancient art of Bharathanatyam, widely practiced in South India. Govardhani was initiated into the Vazhavoor style of Bharathanatyam at the tender age of five, under the tutelage of Smt. Yogeshwari. Her debut stage appearance, which inspired her to continue dance, was the character of Radha in Krishna Leela. Attracted to the nuances of the noted Kalakshethra style of Bharathanatyam, she began to learn under Natya Mayuri Smt. Karthiyayini Srinivas, a disciple of Sri. Adyar K. Lakshman. Govardhani has performed at several prestigious venues such as the Mylapore Fine Arts Club, the popular Jaya TV Show, Thaka Theemi Tha, and IIT Saarang. In addition, she has given a notable number of Bharathanatyam recitals in Chennai, and has choreographed and performed pieces in various different dance forms. Govardhani has also won awards at inter- collegiate dance events. Kum. Govardhani , is currently working in Cisco systems, after completing her Master's in Computer Engineering from North Carolina State University. She continues her learning in Bharathanatyam from the highly sought after local dance teacher and carnatic vocalist, Smt. Ramya Kapadia. Furthermore, Govardhani, has participated in Smt. Ramya's dance productions and has performed in local events such as Trishna, Cary Diwali, Centerfest, Raleigh International Festival, and Basant Bahar, as well as out of state festivals such the famous Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival. |
